How the internet operates(P1)
How does the Internet work? The Internet's growth has become explosive and it seems impossible to escape the bombardment of www.com's seen constantly on television, heard on radio, and seen in magazines. Because the Internet has become such a large part of our lives, a good understanding is needed to use this new tool most effectively.

Equipment to build an internet
Modem is a device that is used to transmit data over the network. Our computer sends data in binary code to our modem which converts the binary coded data to an analogue signal. This data then travels along the telephone network. When data reaches the destination computer, the modem connected to that computer converts the analogue signal back into binary coded data which can be read by your computer. Cables and connectors. These link together the computers, printers, servers and other equipment on your network.
A router. This manages network traffic, ensuring devices can communicate with each other via both wired and wireless connections, and provides internet connectivity.
A wireless access point (optional). This will extend your wireless network if the router is incapable of offering coverage in certain parts of the building.

An internet connection. This could be a faster fibre connection or dedicated leased line. A hardware firewalls. This creates a secure barrier between your network and the internet, blocking security threats. Networks sometimes include an on-sitnetwork server which runs central applications, acts as an email server and provides file storage.
